Sleek Matte Me Lip – Birthday Suit – Swatches & Review

Matte lips are my go-to, whether it be neutral, pink or a complete statement. I love not only the look but the fact I don’t need to worry about my lips being retouched up quite as often. Now Lime Crime’s Velvetine’s have my heart well and truly (see review and swatches here) but they aren’t very easy to get your hands on. So recently I’ve started to venture out to see if there’s any products on the high street which match up to the mark..

Sleek’s Matte Me in Birthday Suit is described as a ‘classic nude’ (£4.99 from Boots), I find it to be a rose pink with a slight brown undertone – a lip colour Kylie Jenner would be proud of. Upon application it has a very lightweight texture and the shape of the doe foot, long and thin, allows you to create a defined lip shade, and in my case allows you to overline the lips without the need for a liner. There’s no noticeable scent to the product as the drying time is within 1 and a half minutes. Once set it is pretty much transfer proof and comfortable on the lips.

Over time with wear the product does start to feel very drying, after about 2 hours, and as it wears off it leaves my pet hate, a thick line on the outside of the lips with no product in the centre. I find that this liquid lipstick does apply well if you add more, so I’d suggest just adding another layer of the product making the lip look just as new also getting rid of the dry feeling.

Overall I think, besides how it wears off, this is a great product. There’s a fab range of shades and I would like to try more, and the price is reasonable, £5 each! The product itself applies like a dream and it can be layered easily without clumping on the lips. As long as you can reapply throughout the day the Matte Me in Birthday Suit is a lovely liquid lipstick. It’s very comparable in colour to the LC Velvetine in Cashmere, however Cashmere leans more towards the cooler purple side. It’s not quite as near and dear to my heart as the Lime Crime Velvetine’s but it sure is one that I reach for on a weekly basis!

    1. Lips wise I would definitely recommend checking out soap&glory as they have some amazing products. And you need to get yourself to a marks and Spencer’s to try out the Rosie Huntington-Whitely collection. It’s just fab! X
