Now we all know that the high street isn’t always hot on the latest trends, so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy trying to find a chocolate brown lipstick in my local Tesco’s. After searching high and low through every make-up stand I finally found two perfect chocolate shades from the amazing Revlon.
Revlon has always been one of my favourite high street brands for lips, they just know how to do it right. And by the looks of things they are the only ones that are doing true chocolatey brown colours! Many of the other brands such as Maybelline, L’Oreal and Rimmel are doing rosy based browns, not what I was on a mission for.
The two shades I picked up were Mink and Chocolicious. I am so impressed with these colours! They are both a creme finish lipstick, highly pigmented – with one swipe you get a true colour – and due to the creme finish they are extremely comfortable and moisturising on the lips. Yes, they don’t last as long as a matte lipstick, they last about 3/4 hours, but that is no problem to me at all as I am so so so in love with these! When they do wear off they fade off the lips, not becoming patchy in the slightest. Amazing quality and only £7.99 from your local Tesco’s or you can buy online from Boots here (and they’re currently on 3 for 2!). So let’s get swatching cause that’s what you came for right?
Mink – a milky chocolate mid-toned brown colour – this shade is perfect to wear as a brown toned nude and would look amazing on those with darker skin tones. It does have a slight rosy base to it which makes it more wearable however it is considerably less pink toned than the other colours I found on my hunt. I can see this fast becoming an everyday lip shade for me, as it will be great for both neutral and heavy make up looks.
Chocolicious – a true dark chocolate brown – this is exactly the shade I was after when I started my mission for brown lips on a budget. The creamy texture means this brown just slides beautifully over the lips. As this is a dark shade I would recommend wearing a lip liner to ensure the colour doesn’t bleed. I paired it with Primark’s brown (see review here) which went perfectly. I absolutely LOVE this colour, it’s very 90s grunge and now I can’t wait to get my hands on more brown shades!
