When Baby Lips balms first came out, the hype was massive. I never quite understood why, essentially they were tinted lip balms selling for the reasonable lip balm price of £2.99, however they lived in the makeup aisles rather than the essentials aisle.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do have two. Like most people I got suckered in. Quite honestly, they do absolutely nothing to nourish my lips and seem to just accentuate any dry patches on my lips. The colours and flavours however, are super cute.

It then became such a hyped product I feel that Maybelline have played on it. You can now get about 5 different ‘styles’ of the balm, i.e. Pop Art, Electro and Valentines. They released lip balm crayons, lip and cheek tint and the product I’m reviewing today, lip gloss.

To be completely honest, the only reason I purchased this lip gloss was the price. I was in the market for a clear lip gloss for the upcoming spring/summer season and this one I was just drawn to (probably because of the sparkles). The colour I went for is Fushia Flicker (£4.99, Boots).

The lipgloss itself is clear with tiny little pink and fuschia sparkles in it, once applied to the lips these sparkles make the lips look ‘wetter’, if that makes sense? But essentially, it’s a clear gloss.

Honestly, it’s the not the glossiest gloss I’ve ever seen and I do find it wears off my lips pretty quick. This means you will need to reapply once every hour or two depending on how much you’re talking/eating etc.

I wouldn’t agree that the lip gloss is particularly moisturising. You’d think with a claim like that in the name, they’d make sure it really was. It does feel smooth on the lips, but I wouldn’t say it moisutrises my lips like an actual lip balm would. It also doesn’t get rid of any dry patches, it simply covers them.

Overall, the packaging is cute and the price is reasonable, but looking back I should have just gone for an actual clear wet looking gloss. There’s no offensive smell to the product and it does look pretty on the lips whilst it lasts, but it’s not a product I tend to reach for and I wouldn’t purchase another.
