Dark Nails.. in Summer?!

When it comes to doing or getting your nails done in the summer, we all think of neons. pastels, bright glitters and funky patterns – but why be the same as everyone else?

Recently, I was gifted a gorgeous OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s mini collection (£14.50, Supercuts) and inside there’s a gorgeous fire engine red, a bright pink and the most perfect ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ blue, but the colour I decided to go for wasn’t one of the ‘appropriate for summer’ colours but a gorgeous burgundy glitter shade called Rich & Brazilian.

As I often do when using a ‘normal’ nail varnish, I began by applying a gel clear coat to my nails, cured it and then applied two coats of the Rich & Brazilian OPI nail varnish. I left it for about 5-7 minutes until it was dry to the touch and applied a topcoat of clear gel nail varnish and cured it. Although overall, this won’t last as long as a complete gel manicure would, I find that a) it means a glitter nail varnish is easier to remove and b) it tends to not chip as easily as a regular manicure would.

Although two coats made the colour opaque, I can see a slight patchiness to the nails so in hindsight (oh, isn’t it a wonderful thing) three coats would have been a better option.

The colour itself is unlike anything I own, it’s a true burgundy with burgundy glitter bits that seem to reflect golden pink tones as well.

I’m really happy with the colour and no matter what they say about neon shades making you look more tan, I also think that darker shades have the same effect.

What manicure have you got going on at the moment?

Love, always.
