How I Shape and Dye My Brows At Home

Brows. They’re so personal to each and every person. Some of us are blessed with thick brows and others of us (like me) are blessed with brows that grow everywhere but where you want them to, with no real defined shape or style.

Now I’m sure there’s so many amazing brow technicians out there that could help my brows look amazing so I had to do little to them day to day. However, there’s something so nerve wracking about putting your brows in the hands of someone else. What if they make your brows too thin, square, round or dark? I’m sure plenty of you feel me on this!

Now personally, I like my brows to look defined and filled in – but they’re not the main aspect of my face or makeup looks. I’m not one of these people that wants super thick, bushy, dark brows and that’s because I know they wouldn’t suit me.

To maintain my brows, and put their fate in the hands of only me, I dye and shape them at home. This gives me full control over them and I know, if they go wrong – it was my fault and I only have myself to blame. So if you want to know how I do it, here’s the products I use…

Eylure Dybrow Dye Kit in Dark Brown (£7.49, Superdrug)

First off, don’t be scared of the colour being Dark Brown if you have fair or dark blonde hair like me. It’s really not as dark as it makes out.

I love this product for really giving colour to all of my brow hairs, even those tiny ones that like to disappear into the abyss. It means that when I have no makeup on – I still have some eyebrows.
How I use the product is by mixing everything together – as per the instructions – and putting it over every single brow hair that is currently there. This means even the ones that are under where you’d usually fill in your brows. I know this sounds weird, but you don’t know how you’ll want to shape your brows unless all of them can be seen. It may be that the gap you usually don’t fill in actually has loads of little brow hairs that were just so fine you couldn’t see them and once dyed, you’ll be able to up your brow game!
So leave this on for around 10 – 15 minutes and then wipe it off with a clean cotton pad to reveal the brows you have to work with.

Next, I’ll take some scissors. This part isn’t in the image, but it’s a really good step to do. I’ll use a little brow spoolie and brush all the brows hairs up. Any that come over the ‘top line’ of my brows, they’ll get a little trim. This just means that when you’re putting in your brow gel, you won’t get any wild, out of place looking hairs.
It’s also important to note that I don’t tend to brush the hairs after my arch up to trim them. I have very little brow hairs there, so what I’ll do it brush them down and then to the side – where they’d usually ‘sit’ and trim any that are super unruly.

For the final step I’ll take the best tweezers in the entire world.
Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezers (£14, Boots)
I don’t what it is about these tweezers, but I’m telling you now that if you don’t already own them – you NEED them.
They’re slanted in just the right way so you can get those pesky fine hairs that other tweezers just won’t grab onto and I actually find the mini size to be more precise for me.

So what I’ll do with these now that my brows are dyed and trimmed is simply get rid of any out of place hairs that really shouldn’t be living where they are. Especially those that like to creep onto your eyelid with no permission from anybody!

And voila! My brows are darker, more defined and nicely shaped.
I probably do this full blown routine every month, month and a half. In between dyes I’ll just pluck any unruly hairs that are really messing up my vibe – but honestly, I’m super lazy and tend to let it all grow out so next time I have a full blown brow transformation again.
