How I Grew My Nails Long & Strong – Without Supplements

I’m going to give you a warning right now. If you think I’m about to tell you a miracle about how to grow your natural nails long and strong with information you don’t already know, you’re wrong.

I’m here to be the person to tell you everything you know you should be doing, but I’m here to tell you that it really does work. Shocker, I know.

Drink Water
Yep. The obvious knowledge has already begun, but it’s true.
Over the past four months my natural nails have improved dramatically and this is one of the main factors.

I bought myself a gallon plastic bottle (£5.49, eBay) and everyday I fill it up, right to the top. Throughout the day I then drink this and sometimes, I even finish it and start again.

It’s think how something as simple as drinking water can improve the strength of your nails! It’s also made my skin a whole lot clearer too, so I challenge you to try it.

Get Outside and Enjoy the Sunshine
Vitamin D is a big factor of good nails, skin and hair. That’s why when you go away your skin tends to clear up bigtime – the sun is the most amazing way to get Vitamin D.

The weather in the UK has been unbelievable recently and it’s made me want to be outside more as it is. I personally find that the best way to get my Vitamin D is taking the dog for extra long walks. By extra long I mean 45-50 minutes rather than the usual 25-30 minutes. Hey, and you’ll be getting your daily steps in!

I’ll whack on an awesome playlist or a podcast and just get myself outside. To inspire you, here’s some of my favourites;

Playlist: Easy 90s

Protect Them With Gel Polish
I’m lucky enough to have a home LED gel varnish system and honestly, you can get them pretty cheap from most places now. It may be a little bit of an investment at first, but trust me – you’ll be so happy you did.

You can buy loads of cheap gel varnishes from eBay, Amazon and beauty outlet stores. My favourites are Bluesky and Sensationail varnishes.

I find that by once every 10 – 14 days, taking off the gel you have on, filing your nails down to a nice shape/ensuring there’s no uneven edges and then taking the time to give yourself a neat pretty manicure, really pays off.

For the last month, rather than just whacking gel nail varnish on and not really thinking about getting the edges neat etc has made a huge difference. My natural nails and really growing and I’m loving it!

In case you’re wondering, the varnish I’m wearing in the photos is Sensational Gel Nail Polish in Mauve Maven (£12.50, Sensationail).

Eating Good
A bit like the water one, this is common sense I know – but if I don’t say it, then I’d be telling big fibs.

As I’m going on my holidays soon, I’ve really been looking after myself. I’ve been meal prepping for work, really thinking about what I’m eating when I’m at home and I’ve even been known to crave chocolate and eat a banana instead. Scary, I know!

What you put in your body really does have an effect on what you see in the mirror. Be it your skin, nails, hair etc. As well as the other factors, I definitely think that thanks to eating more and more natural products – I’ve been getting the vitamins and minerals my body needs which in turn is helping my nails grow. So if you’re serious about getting long nails, this is definitely something to consider.

Now, I know nothing I’ve told you here isn’t what you’ve already heard but honestly, just try these few things and see how things improve.

I’m not here to tell you what to do and I’m not here to tell you that what’s worked for me will work for you, I ain’t no doctor. I’m just here to say that trying it won’t hurt and it saves taking all those supplements, vitamins and all the other things you can buy to help your nails grow.

If you do try it out and it works for you, I’d love to know. Also if you have any more natural remedies people could try, pop it in the comments. I’m sure everyone would be super thankful!

Love, always.
