Shut The Contour!

When it comes to contouring and defining the face, I’ll be the first to admit that it’s not my fortay. That doesn’t mean however, that I don’t give a go 70% of the time I do my makeup.

If anything, I mainly bronze and highlight, rather than try to create sharp cheekbones. I do this for two reasons;

  1. I’m rather blessed with defined cheeks
  2. I prefer to look more ‘youthful’ and rounded that sharp

For my birthday, my dearest friend Chazz bought me the Skinny Dip Shut The Contour brush set (£35, Beauty Bay). Although the colour she bought me must have been limited edition, you can still get this complete set in a range of different colour combinations and I thought I’d give you the low down on if it’s worth the money!

In the set, as you can see, you get four brushes. These are meant to be the perfect companions for creating a defined face, from highlighting to contouring to buffing out and blending.

C1 ‘Fleek Bones’ – this is meant for precise cheekbone application.
I use this for my highlight as I find that popping your powder on the tip of the brush allows you to first of all place the highlight on the top of your cheekbones. Then, you can blend it out seamlessly using the perimeter of the brush. Since getting the set, I’ve been using this non-stop. It also works great to blend out any cream highlights.

C2 ‘Call My Buff’ – described as a brush to blend products over the cheeks.
This brush is definitely one for applying blush on the apples of the cheeks. It’s absolutely the perfect size for doing this and due to the round edges of the brush, you can really blend your blush into the rest of your cheek makeup.

C3 ‘Flat Out Fabulous’ – a flat top blending brush.
I love love love this brush for applying cream contour/bronzer to my cheeks. Nine times out of ten I use it in line with my Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronze Universel (£40, Boots). I love applying this cream bronzer either underneath my whole makeup or after I’ve applied my foundation. When I do, this brush blends it in like a dream and as the brushes are synthetic, it means that no product is soaked up into the bristles.

C4 ‘Blend The Rules’ – a powder cheek brush.
This brush is perfect for applying our powder contour just where you want it. The shape of the brush allows you to create the hollow in your cheek, whilst ensuring you can do this without create any harsh lines. It’s also a great brush for applying your bronzer where you want a little more definition in the ‘three formation’. This is what I always use this brush for.

Overall, I think this set is perfect for having on hand for your blush, highlight and bronzer or contour. The brushes are synthetic and cruelty-free, meaning they won’t soak up any cream products that you do use with them.

Not only that, but they’re also extremely pretty to look at and I have them on display in my room – I mean, how could I not?

As I’ve been so impressed with these brushes, I’d definitely look into buying other brushes from Skinny Dip in the future, so if you do have any recommendations, please let me know!

Love, always.
