Veganuary: Watch (These Documentaries) & Learn

I think a lot of people are very naive about what really happens to put their meat on their plate. They also may not know how it fully effects their health, the environment and of course, the animals.

In this post, I’m going to recommend some documentaries to watch to either educate you about the industry or maybe just show you that being a vegan can impact yourself, others and the world in many different ways.

The Game Changers.

This documentary talks about the benefits ofer being a plant based athelete and shows the success stories. It also talks about scientific studies and how a plant based diet can be good for just anyone.

I personally found the section about the results of blood tests after both a meat and plant based meal very interesting. It really makes you think about what you’re putting into your body by eating meat.

Cowspiracy.

This is a feature length documentary uncovering the dairy industry. It talks about how this effects the planet and why the world’s most leading environmental organisations don’t talk about it.

This was the first documentary I watched that made me think about going vegan, around 3 years ago. It actually stopped me having cow’s milk all together and made me more mindful of dairy in products I was eating.

What the Health.

This documentary criticises the impact of a meat and dairy diet. It questions health and pharmaceutical organisations, along with showing case studies of people that have gone vegan for their health.

I really enjoyed the educational aspect of this documentary and it made me realise that going vegan can really have a massive impact on your health. It definitely made me cut down drastically on non-vegan products such as meat alternatives that were only veggie.

Forks Over Knives.

This film explores the benefits of a plant based diet to eliminate and control diseases such as cancer and diabetes. It’s a really interesting one to watch if you’re thinking of going vegan for health reasons.

73 Cows.

This short film won a BAFTA for showing the first UK farmer to cease raising his cows for beef and trading this to begin organic vegan farming. To see the reasons he first started farming the cows, up until the point he finds a sanctuary for them to live out their natural lives is very emotional. I’d definitely advise getting tissues at the ready.

Dominion.

This is an Australian documentary about morality and validity of our dominion (sovereignty or control) over animals. It exposes the dark underbelly of modern animal agriculture.

I’ve not personally watched this as my husband says it’s very graphic and probably something I’m not emotionally prepared for. I think for those who’re looking for that final bit of a ‘push’ into going vegan. This may just be the one.

You can watch it on Films for Action here: Dominion.

I’d love to know if there’s any other documentaries or films you think are good to watch, for either inspiration on going vegan or gratitude in already being vegan.
