Eat Your Berries

From strawberries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries and everything in between. Berries are great for you and in this post, I’m going to tell you why. All I need you to do is make sure you’re eating them!

Antioxidants.

All berries contain antioxidants which help to keep free radicals under control. This simply means they help to protect your cells and can help to reduce the risk of disease.

One of the antioxidants called ellagic acid can also helps to decrease wrinkling and other signs of aging related to sun exposure. We all want great skin right?

In studies, these antioxidants have also been shown to reduce markers associated with several types of cancer.

Blood sugar.

Human studies have shown that eating berries can prevent high blood sugar levels and also help insulin response when eating high-carb meals. These effects appeared to occur in both healthy people, as well as those who have an insulin resistance.

Fiber.

Berries contain soluble fibre which slows down the movement of food through the digestive tract. In turn, this makes you feel full and who doesn’t want to feel fuller for longer?

In turn, this means that eating berries can be a great help for anyone who’s trying to manage their weight. Incorporating them into your meals such as smoothies, oats or even ate as a snack is a great idea!

Nutrients.

Berries are low in calories but high in nutrients. Not only do they provide antioxidants, they also contain the following;

♡ Vitamin C
♡ Manganese
♡ Vitamin K1
♡ Copper
♡ Folate

Anti inflammatory.

Inflammation is your bodies defence against infection or injury. Stress, unhealthy food choices and also little physical activity can also lead to inflammation.

The antioxidants in berries can help to lower the markers that cause this in the first place. In turn, this can also help to decrease your risk of heart disease along with other health problems.

Lower cholesterol.

Want a healthy heart? Berries are the way forward. Studies have been done which have shown they lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, which help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Eat your berries.

There’s not much else to say really. They’re delicious, there’s so many different ones to choose from and honestly, they’re so so good for you. How are you going to eat your berries next? I’m sitting here writing this and all I can think about is a juicy punnet of strawberries, so guess who’s going to the shops..
