I recently saw a post from Deliciously Ella to say that Ella and her husband have made the decision to temporarily close their little deli in London. They’ve noticed a drop in customers and with COVID-19 in the air (quite literally) they couldn’t see it getting any better.

For this reason, in support of Ella, her husband and the business they’ve built I wanted to talk to you all about what Deliciously Ella means to me.

Inspiring.

I first started getting into eating less meat, processed foods and generally living a healthier life around 6 or 7 years ago. I think Ella was mentioned in a blog I read or a magazine but either way, the way she’d changed her diet and seen major health benefits really struck a chord with me.

I asked my mum for her book, Deliciously Ella (Amazon, £12) and from then on I started to lead a healthier life.

This was the first time I tried to go vegan but certain circumstances meant I didn’t stick it out back then. I still see Ella as my main inspiration though.

Delicious recipes.

To this day, I still use Delciously Ella’s book to find recipes. My personal favourites are the potato and cauliflower curry, as well as the lentil bolognese.

When Ella then started bringing out snacks in the supermarket, I was already sold and it kind of felt like I knew her, even though I’ve never spoken to her in my life. I just love the back story of her brand and I feel proud of where she is now in life.

Tasty, healthy snacks.

There’s a few different snacks from Ella that I enjoy but honestly, these almond butter & salted caramel cups are my absolute favourite. They have the gooey caramel a vegan can only dream of. They hit my sweet spot and they’re not overly unhealthy. After all oats, nuts and fruit are good for you. Pick yours up in Sainsbury’s for £1.50.

The pack of two is perfect, especially with a cup of tea. Just make sure you’re careful when biting into them, as the caramel is super gooey. If you put the cup in your mouth in one, then that won’t technically be a problem. Your caramel cups, your rules.

Support businesses.

During this weird time on planet Earth, I just wanted to show my support for the independent retailers, especially those I have a soft spot for. You may think that just because a brand such as Deliciously Ella is in the supermarkets, then they must be doing well for themselves, but without the sales things could change dramatically.

For this reason, please continue to buy the independent brands whether it’s in the supermarkets, online or even just popping into your local cafe to buy a coffee. These places need us more than ever right now and that couple of quid means a lot to them.
