Drawing Baby Yoda

Since me and my husband starting watching The Mandalorian on Disney Plus a couple of weeks ago, I’ve become absolutely infatuated with baby Yoda. He’s just so darn cute!

He’s so cute, that I knew I just had to draw him. After all, practice of all kinds of art makes perfect – so why not draw a fictional creature?

Reference image.

It wasn’t hard to find a good reference image for baby Yoda, he’s floating around the internet everywhere at the moment. I used the one below but decided to not put in the extras around him and focus completely on Yoda himself.

I also wanted to make him look a bit happier, as I find he often looks really sad.

Time lapse.

It’s becoming a common theme that I experience trouble with drawing eyes. With Yoda’s it was particularly hard because they’re completely black! I also found that after drawing him up I wasn’t happy with the ratio of his coat to his face, so I did some free forming to get it to a point I was happy with.

The final image.

I’m really happy with how the image turned out in the end. Although I do wish his eyes looked a bit more ‘realistic’, I still am proud of what I’ve drawn up.

To make it quirky and something I think people may want to purchase as a gift for themselves or a friend, I decided to add the text ‘Yoda best you are’. After all, who doesn’t love a good pun?

My shop.

To download a digital copy to print at home or purchase an A5 print, just head over to my shop here: Becca by nature. I think they’re a great idea to send to a friend and I can write a handwritten note to pop in the envelope for you too!
