Tropic Like It’s Hot

Pineapples are such a treat to me. It’s a fruit that I don’t eat very often but when I do, it makes me feel like I’m on holiday on some beach absolutely loving life. Not only is a pineapple a treat to eat, it’s also a treat for your health and here’s why.

Antioxidants.

Antioxidants help your body fight oxidative stress caused by free radicals. Free radicals essentially work with your body’s cells to cause damage. This comes out as inflammation, a weakened immune system and also lots of diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. For this reason, it’s really important to have as many antioxidants as possible.

Boost your immune system.

Pineapples have been used in traditional medicine for a very long time. This is due to them having so many vitamins, minerals and enzymes that can help boost your immunity and also suppress inflammation.

They contain; folate, vitamin B6, potassium, riboflavin, iron, niacin, vitamin C, fiber, manganese, magnesium, thiamin and pantothenic acid.

Digestive and muscle health.

Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain. This helps to breakdown protein molecules into their building blocks, to make them into amino acids and small peptides.

When the protein molecules are broken down, this means they’re more easily absorbed in the small intestine. If you have a protein heavy diet, pineapple is a great addition to make sure it’s gets broken down to help your muscles heal and grow.

Can help to ease arthritis.

Thanks to pineapples anti-inflammatory properties, they can provide pain relief for those who suffer with inflammatory arthritis. It’s important to note this isn’t a long term treatment but can aid short term pain relief for those that do suffer day to day.

Post surgery recovery.

Again, due to pineapple’s amazing inflammatory properties, it’s great for those who’ve recently undergone surgery. The bromelain can help to reduce not only the inflammation but also the bruises, pain and swelling.

This means if you have had surgery, it can help to speed up the healing process, so make sure to get those pineapples ready!

Delicious and nutritious.

Overall, pineapple is a great addition to your diet. If you regularly exercise, suffer from inflammation pain or have any surgery’s upcoming, this fruit is the one for you.

How do you enjoy yours?

Love, always – B
