One In A Melon

Watermelon is one my favourite snacks, especially during the summertime. Although they’re a pain to cut up and store, it’s so worth it for the taste, as well as the nutritious benefits.

Hydration.

If you haven’t guessed from the name, watermelon has a high water content as it’s around 90% water. This helps to keep your body hydrated and also keeps you feeling full throughout the day. Snacking on some watermelon will not only curb your hunger, but also keep you hydrated.

Healthy for the heart.

Watermelons contain a nutrient called lycopene which can help to lower both blood pressure and cholesterol levels. In turn, this helps to lower the risk of heart attacks.

The lycopene may also help to reduce the stiffness and thickness of artery walls. There’s also citrulline within watermelon which can increase nitric oxide levels in the body, helping the blood vessels expand and again, lower blood pressure.

Vitamin A, B6, C, potassium and magnesium which can be found in watermelon are also great for a healthy heart.

Inflammation, no more.

Thanks to vitamin C and lycopene in watermelon, it has really good anti-inflammatory properties. This is great for lowering the risk of many chronic diseases and also easing those that people already have.

There’s also studies which show these nutrients are great for brain health. Watermelon can delay both the onset and progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Muscle soreness preventer.

Citrulline which is found in watermelon can help to reduce muscle soreness. By absorbing citrulline, this can help with a quicker heart rate recovery, as well as less muscle soreness time. If you regularly exercise or go HAM at the gym, it’s worth drinking watermelon juice either throughout your workout or after to help with that recovery.

You’ll be glowing.

The lycopene in watermelon not only helps with so many other thingx, but it can also protect your skin from sunburn. If you’re on holiday and lucky enough to be getting an all inclusive spread, make sure to eat up that watermelon where you can!

Not only can it help make your skin golden, the vitamin C and A within watermelon can help produce collagen to keep your skin looking plump and also prevent the skin from going dry.

Eat it up.

Overall watermelon is not only something that’s going to tickle your tastebuds, it’s also going to provide you with so many health benefits. From your heart health, to your muscle soreness and even making your skin glow – make sure to eat it up!

What’s your favourite way to enjoy watermelon?

  1. Very nice! I grew up in a small SJ Valley town with a summer watermelon festival in July. They had a melon queen, car and prize raffle, melon eating contest, carnival games.
