You’re My Cup of Tea

A cup of tea. A brew. A mug of happiness. Whatever you want to call it, a lot of people are obsessed with tea and I my friends am one of them. If I’ve not had my first cup by 9am at the latest, you do not want to know me. It’s an essential part of my morning and without it, I really would be lost.

I love to drink mine with a little splash of soya milk. No sugar, no fuss. In this post, I’m going to tell you all about the benefits that tea has, so read on to know more.

Antioxidants.

If you’ve read any of my other nutrition style posts, you’ll know that I love me a good antioxidant. Antioxidants are amazing for helping with inflammation and removing free radicals from the body. In turn, this decreases the risk of chronic diseases and also helps to prevent cell damage.

Helps your gut.

Black tea can help to promote the growth of good bacteria. This good bacteria plays an important role in reducing the risk of certain health conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and even cancer.

Tea also contains antimicrobial properties to help kill off harmful substances, to improve gut bacteria and immunity.

Reduce the risk of cancer.

Polyphenols found in black tea may help prevent cancer cell survival. A study analyzed the effects and both black and green tea can regulate cancer call growth, as well as reduce the development of new cells.

These studies also showed that it can help to reduce the spread of hormone-dependent tumours.

Of course, tea isn’t the answer or a treatment in any way but studies have shown it can have the potential to reduce the survival of the cancerous cells.

Helps with focus.

As I’m sure you all know tea contains caffeine and it also contains an amino acid called L-theanine. Both of these can help make you more alert and focused.

Unlike coffee, the combination of both caffeine and L-theanine gives a more stable energy after drinking. In studies, it’s been shown that accuracy and alertness was improved when drinking black tea.

As a guide, there’s on average 26mg in a nicely brewed black tea.

Drink up.

Overall, there’s nothing wrong with having a few cups of tea each day. It’s best to drink it black or with a splash of milk but it’s important to not have sugar as this will counteract all the great benefits it has.

Let me know how you like yours and the big question is, do you leave your tea bag in or out?

Love, always – B

Honestly, the game of thrones book series is really well done and great for getting ur mind off ur day. Health wise China study was by definition life changing, got me onto plant based eating. History is interesting…I read about the Chinese communist revolution of the 50s which has some interesting warnings for our times. What about u?
