Apple Of My Eye

Whether you like green ones, red ones, juicy ones, sour ones, big ones or baking ones, apples are a great incorporation into your diet and they can be used in so many different ways. There’s literally an apple for everyone, so let’s get into why they’re so amazing. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away right?

Regulate blood sugar.

Evidence suggests that eating apples can help lower blood sugar levels and protect against type 2 diabetes. Some of the antioxidants that are within apples can also slow down digestion and the absorption of sugars.

There’s evidence that eating one or more apples a day can lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by almost 30%.

Vitamins and minerals.

There’s a couple of great vitamins and minerals within an apple. One of the main ones is vitamin C. This is an absorbic acid that’s essential for everyday help. It’s great for both the immune system, as well as skin health.

There’s also potassium, this helps to regulate blood pressure and is known to benefit heart health.

There’s also the nutrients quercetin, catechin and chlorogenic acid. All of these have anti-inflammatory properties, as well as ways of lowering blood sugar.

High fiber.

Apples contain a high amount of fiber. There’s both soluble and insoluble fiber called pectin. There’s lot of great benefits for the soluble fiber as it feeds the friendly bacteria in your gut and keeps things going, if you know what I mean!

It’s not all good!

In general, everyone gets on with apples but they can cause some issues for people who have IBS, as they contain so much fiber it can cause gas and abdominal pain.

If people are intolerant to fructose they may also be problematic for digestive reasons and it advised they’re no eaten.

An apple a day.

Overall, an apple a day has many great benefits. You can eat them alone, with nut butter (my personal favourite way) or even as part of a crumble. They’re super delicious and I’d love to know which your favourite is. Mine’s a pink lady all the way!

Love, always – B
