Going For a Cocktail in the New Normal

Now that lockdown’s eased I do feel like getting back to ‘normal’ is going to be tough for a lot of us. Even me, someone that’s usually very outgoing and not an anxious person felt nerves when heading out for a few cocktails with my girls a couple of weeks ago. I think it’s the fear of going to somewhere you’re familiar with but everything’s different, know what I mean?

The new normal.

When me and my girls headed out a couple of weeks ago, I was actually very surprised with how everything was handled and honestly, we had the best time. It was so nice to do something ‘normal’ such as going for a few drinks. It was satisfying to put on something other than leggings and a sports bra, to do my hair and even put a little makeup on. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t miss putting makeup on everyday but there was a nice feeling when doing it as it felt like life was back to how it used to be and honestly that was nice.

Now, I don’t want this to be a post to make people think they should go out or shouldn’t go out. If you’ve seen my recent post ‘Do what you want’, you’ll know I’m all for everyone doing whatever the hell they want but I do think stepping out of your current comfort zone to bring yourself back to reality a little is good for the soul.

Adapting.

For me personally I’ve been working from home since March and will be doing so until at least the end of the year, so seeing something other than my four living room walls and the occasional supermarket isn’t so bad. I’ve spoken to a few people who like myself have never been anxious before but I think the seriousness of this pandemic has made many people feel nervous about getting back to normal and for me personally, I did have to push myself just a little to get out there.

Once I’d been out on the girls day it was amazing how all of a sudden I had that little social butterfly back in me. Since then I’ve tried to make weekly plans, just so I have something to look forward to each week to help get me through the ‘new normal’ that I’ve personally had to adapt to.

I’m looking forward to visiting independent businesses to help them through this tough time and more than ever, I feel like I’d like to be a little more adventurous in my outing choices. Maybe travelling a little further than I would usually for a bit of lunch, after all, being in the same four walls can get you a little stir crazy.

I hope you’re all handling the ‘new normal’ okay and if you don’t yet feel comfortable about going out, that’s totally okay. The transition is going to be different for everybody and as long as you feel secure and that what you’re doing is what’s best for you, that’s all that matters.

I’d love to know what the first thing you’ve done or have planned is, so let me know in the comments below.

Love, always – B

  1. I think you have put into to words what many are feeling. I would have been on far away travels & out & about but have had my world tipped upside down because of all this. Now just trying to create a new positive place to find peace & enjoyment in adapted ways. Here’s to moving forward to new happy places with friends & family 👍🏻😃
