Protect Your Face

I know you’ve probably heard this a million times over, but wearing sun screen is so important for your whole body but especially your face. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the best at putting SPF on and highly relied on the fact that it’s in foundations but let’s be honest, the typical SPF15 isn’t close to enough. I’ve now found the perfect SPF50 which acts as both a moisturiser and sun protector, I put it on everyday without fail (even if it’s cloudy outside) and honestly, my skins never thanked me more!

Why should I wear SPF everyday?

Simply enough, no matter whether it’s cloudy, raining, sunny or freezing cold UV rays will be coming for your skin day in and day out. Even on a cloudy day, 80% of the sun’s rays pass through the clouds.

For this reason, it’s super important for us to all to make sure we’re taking every precaution possible to prevent damage from the sun’s rays. The easiest way to do this is by putting on SPF. It’s super important that it has both UVA and UVB too, UVA protects against the longer wavelength of the rays which are linked to aging and UVB has a shorter wavelength, most associated with the skin burning.

What will it protect me against?

There are so many benefits to wearing SPF and these aren’t just for your face but your whole body too! First and foremost, it protects you against the sun’s rays and in turn, sun damage and sun burn. Nobody wants to look like a lobster do they?

It lowers your risk of skin cancer, which is something that’s extremely common. By putting on suncream, you actually lower your risk by over half! You’d be stupid not to!

One of the main reasons I’ve started to wear sunscreen on my face everyday is to prevent premature aging. Sun damage can give you that ‘leathery look’ and cause discoloration such as ‘sun spots’ which can make you look older than you are. As someone in their late 20s (ew), aging is something I definitely want to prevent rather than try and fix later down the line.

Bondi Sands Sunscreen Lotion 50+.

This my friends is my go to product. It’s reef friendly, cruelty free and although not labelled vegan I’ve checked the ingredients and none are derived from animals, so I’m taking that as a win. If you’re ever not sure about ingredients, I use Double Check Vegan! This product although only rated 3 stars has actually worked wonders for my skin since starting to use it a couple of months ago.

As I’m not working from home, makeup’s more of a every few weeks thing rather than most days, so I know use this SPF as my daily moisturiser to make sure I’m protected. It’s fragrance free, has UVA and UVB protection of 50+ and honestly, it works a dream. I use about a 5p sized amount each day and apply it first thing. It’s a little greasy, so if you are putting makeup on too, I’d advise waiting around 5 minutes to let it sink in nicely.

I’ve found it hasn’t broke me out at all, in fact, I feel it’s helping to keep my spots at bay but maybe this is also due to my skin not being irritated by the weather and sun? It keeps me moisturised throughout the day and I don’t have that claggy feeling you can sometimes get with sunscreens. I absolutely love how this feels and so far, I haven’t had a single red nose or forehead (which are the first things that will burn for me) and if you live in the UK, you know that these past few weeks have been HOT!

I’d say I’m about half way through the bottle so far, so it’s working out to be very cost effective and although I’m trying to put it on everyday, there are a few days I’ve missed. Either way, this product is £8 and the benefits are worth the price no matter how long it lasts. I’ll be looking to Bondi Sands for my body suncream too when the one I have now has ran out. I get mine from Superdrug.

I hope this has helped you realise the importance of sunscreen everyday and not only when the sun’s shining outside. If you have any recommendations of vegan, cruelty free sunscreen be sure to leave them below, as I’d love to see which other ones are out there!

Love, always – B
