Stanley

Oh my favourite doggy nephew, Stanley the sausage. I was chuffed when my bestie asked if I could re-draw her dog as she was going to give it to her mum as a birthday present. I say redraw as back in February, when I’d decided to start drawing pets my style of drawing was so so different and this isn’t a bad thing, it just shows how far you can come with practice each day and learning new skills. I’m a self taught digital artist, so it means a lot when someone who’s close to me asks for a commission.

The reference image.

Little Stanley is so so cute anyway, so no matter which image Chazz wanted it would have been a pleasure to draw. She decided upon Stanley standing, so you’re able to see his long body, super cute face and of course all of his gorgeous marking. As the reference didn’t properly show his feet, this was the only thing I needed to work out but overall, when I have an exact reference image it makes it much easier for me to get the proportions and markings right, as I have the image right in front of me.

The final piece.

I absolutely love how the final piece came out. I actually used one of the flick spray tools to help get Stanley’s dappled fur and it helps to show the markings that he has. I absolutely love his cheeky face and oh my goodness, those ears! One of my favourite ways of getting dogs to look furry is by using the ‘short hair’ touch ups brush on Procreate to go around the edges of any different colours and also the whole image itself. It just adds that realistic effect even though the image itself is more of a caricature kind of feel.
