10 Minutes Is Better Than Nothing

We all have days where either can’t be bothered, feel a bit in pain from maybe a workout the day previous or honestly just feel a bit meh. I have these days at least 4 times a week and I’ll try and talk myself into all the reasons I shouldn’t workout today, why I shouldn’t write a blog post today and why it’s okay. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to not workout and not to run a blog, I’m no way saying to push yourself into doing something because you feel like you have to, that’s not what I’m saying at all.

For me, working out and also writing this blog is more of a mental help for me that anything else. Yes, I have an aesthetic goal that I’m looking to achieve from working out, but when I do work out I feel more motivated, I feel I’ve achieved something for the day and it generally just puts me in a much better mood. You can see more about working out for you here: Workout for you.

In terms of my blog, writing this makes me feel achieved in that hopefully one person reads my post and feels inspired, more positive in their outlook or for my food posts, they find something that they’d like to try. I have a voice and I want to use it in anyway that I’m able to.

10 minutes is better than nothing.

Now, as I have dogs I have to go out on a 40 – 1 hour walk at least once a day anyway which is great for my daily routine. If I don’t have the right mindset to do a workout, I might just walk for an extra 15 minutes by taking a different route or path.

I always think to myself, doing 10 minutes of something is better than doing 10 minutes of nothing and really, what’s 10 minutes?

Whether you decide to do a stretch workout for 10 minutes, maybe a super intense HIIT session or one of my personal faves, a dance workout, these are all 10 minutes of time which are a short term session with a long term gain, as it’ll help get you that motivation or achieved feeling for the rest of the day.

For my blog, a blog post can sometimes take me 10 minutes to write, especially one like this that’s coming from the heart and it’s a bit improvised. Maybe the 10 minutes could be me writing a post, looking for inspiration on what to write about that week or maybe even doing a quick sketch for one of my illustrations. The 10 minutes in the long run will help me so much and it’s better than doing nothing at all.

It’s not for everyone.

Now as I said at the start, working out and writing a blog isn’t for everyone and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it didn’t used to be for me either. Maybe you could put the 10 minute rule into something else you want to do. For example, instead of scrolling on Instagram for 10 minutes (I am so guilty of this) maybe read a book for 10 minutes. Maybe you could use that 10 minutes to do a face mask or paint your nails. Honestly, no matter what it is that enriches your day, makes you feel better mentally and helps to make you feel productive do it. After all, it’s only 10 minutes!

Let me know in the comments what you’re going to use your 10 minutes for today, I’d love to know if this post inspired you at all. It means a lot when people reach out to me!

Love, always – B

    1. This is so true. Sometimes I start and before I know it I’ve been reading my book for half an hour not just 10 minutes. I think it’s good to take time out or focus for a short period sometimes, who know where it may lead!
