Battle of the Empties: Shower Gel

I’ve been saving my empties for a little too long now and the fact I’ve got to the point where I’m going to have to make a series says something. I need to get rid, so there’s space for more makeup and beauty items right?! And so I decided to do a series in sections such as this one, shower gel. I’ll go through the items and tell you what I liked and didn’t like and then I’ll finish by telling you the outright winner! I hope it’s something you’re interested in, I know I am.

Now first thing to note is that all these shower gels are vegan and cruelty free. They’re all from great ethical companies and for that, they’re all winners in my eyes. I try my hardest to buy cruelty free and vegan products, especially the things that you use on a day to day basis. So without further ado, let’s get further into the battle..

The Body Shop Banana Shower Cream (£9.43, Amazon – was limited edition)

Anyone who knows me in real life will attest to the fact that I frickin’ LOVE bananas. I eat bananas everyday, I love all things banana patterned and honestly, I just love bananas. End of story.

I was lucky enough to be gifted this shower gel by my dearest friend Chazz. She knows my love for bananas is real and I couldn’t have been happier with this gift.

First off, it smells incredible. It’s not that fake banana smell, it’s truly sumptuous banana cake scented and there’s no better shower feeling than smelling good. I find this gel lathers well, although I do feel I need a little more than usual for a real good lather to take place.

I use my shower gels as a shaving gel too and with this being a cream, I found it wasn’t quite lathery enough, although it did leave my skin feeling super moisturised after drying off.

I absolutely love this shower gel, but honestly it’s a lot to pay for a small bottle especially when there’s other products out there.

8/10

Raspberry and Vanilla Shower Soak (£2.99, Superdrug)

My god, this is a massive bottle of Shower Gel and it lasts so long! Let’s start with the smell, this has a super sweet berry smell that doesn’t quite turn the edge to fake smelling (there’s nothing I hate more than a fabricated smell). It lingers in the shower whilst washing although I feel it’s not really there after you’ve dried yourself off.

The size of the bottle is great for the price and you only need one generous blob to lather up your whole body. The bubbles are creamy enough to make this a good shaving partner, personally I always use the shower gel lather rather than a separate product.

I don’t personally like baths but I know if you do, the bubbles that come from this product are great!

I love the Superdrug treat me range and there’s a couple of the other flavours of this shower gel that I want to try. Notably the coconut one and the salted caramel one – they just sound delicious.

9/10

Original Source Tingly Mint & Tea Tree Shower Gel (£1.95, Boots)

I don’t know why but this shower gel always takes me back to uni. When I was 18, I was a bit of a brat and would only have certain things. Original source being my Shower Gel of choice.

Personally, I love all the scents of this product but I always go back to the OG mint and tea tree – even if it does make you tingle in unwanted places.

I love original source as the scents are natural and long lasting. Even once you’ve finished drying yourself the incredible smells linger, as if they’ve really sunk into your body. Out of all the shower gels I find that you need less of this one to create a good lather.

Much like the Superdrug one, it’s also great for shaving. It doesn’t clog up my razor and it really allows the blade to slide on my skin for a close shave.

I’ll always be willing to try other shower gels but this is outright the top of my ideals. There’s nothing I could fault about it and there’s always somewhere with it on sale! I think I got this big bottle for just £2!

10/10 and the overall shower gel battle winner.

Love always.
