Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Garnet – Swatches & Review

An accident. That’s what this lip product purchase was, an accident. My intentions were to buy a berry toned lipgloss but like a magpie I saw a silver sparkly diamond on top of a lip gloss looking product and zoomed in on my prey. It wasn’t until I was home and it was too late that I realised that this was in fact a lip lacquer and those two products are unfortunately for me very different.

Upon opening the wand there is a brush rather than your typical doe foot applicator, and as you pull the wand out you can feel how thick and sticky the product is. This was the point when I was like, ‘Wait up a second, this isn’t lipgloss’.Of course I was dissapointed with myself, but nevertheless I was still excited to give it a go. The shade I got was 500 Garnet which is a subtle purple-pink berry.
The packaging of the product is absolutely gorgeous, I couldn’t fault it, it’s what drew me to buy the lacquer in the first place. The gem on the top links the whole product range as the lacquers are all named after different gemstones – a lovely touch. Scent-wise I find it to be quite chemically but when on the lips it isn’t noticeable in the slightest.

When applying the product it went on very thick but surprisingly evened out over the lips very smoothly. Revlon themselves describe this product as an ‘innovative wax-free gel technology. Get true color clarity, vivid high-impact shine and a bouncy, lightweight feel.’ To an extent I do agree with this, yes the texture is ‘gel like’, however when on the lips I wouldn’t say it is lightweight as I found it be quite sticky. Aside from the stickiness I did find that the product seemed to blur the lines on my lips and even out the texture, which  I assume is the HD technology.

Personally I wouldn’t wear this straight as it comes from the tube. The one time I did wear the lacquer I ended up blotting it down to a stains which lasted for most of the day – around 5/6 hours. I assume if wearing the product as it is intended once the gloss wears away you’d be left with the same stain and longevity. Due to the nature of a glossy lacquer such as this it does as expected easily transfer and I imagine it would also after time bleed out of the lip line. If you do enjoy a high-shine lip this product would definitely be for you!

I won’t be purchasing any more shades from this range as I’m more of a lipstick girl, high-shine gloss isn’t really my thing. Many swatches I’ve seen online however do look stunning. See GlamLifeGuru’s video here. They are available in Boots and Superdrug for £7.99!

Do you like the Ultra HD Lip Lacquer range?
Also any recommendations for a sheer berry tinted lipgloss would ve greately appreciated, as I still haven’t purchased one!
