Eat Your Vegetables Day

We have so many national days and today, Wednesday 17th June is eat your vegetables day. Now I’d like to think you all eat vegetables anyway, but this post is just going to be about why vegetables are so important for our nutrition along with what they provide. Who knows, maybe you’ll start eating more after reading this?

Vitamins and minerals.

Our bodies are pretty awesome things but unfortunately, they can’t make their own vitamins and minerals. This is where our food comes into play. Within vegetables there’s so many different vitamins and minerals that help to keep us healthy.

It’s important that we eat not only different vegetables everyday but also different colour varieties, as with each colour comes different benefits and vitamins. So for example, if you’ve already had green beans, try eating a red rather than a green pepper that same day.


Vegetables contain a lot of your dietary fiber. This not only helps to reduce blood cholesterol, it’s important for your bowel function. By eating enough vegetables you’ll have a good flow going, if you know what I mean!

Reduce risk of disease.

By making sure you eat enough vegetables each day, not only will you be getting all the nutrients but you’ll also reduce your risk of diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and in some studies, it’s also been shown that eating your vegetables can reduce the risk of cancer.

Healthy snack.

If you’re a bit snacker like me, vegetables are an awesome alternative when you get a bit peckish between meals. For most vegetables, they’re very low calorie and it’s very hard to overeat on them. This means if you wanted to eat a whole bag of carrots, there’s nothing detrimental that’s going to happen to you. Thanks to the fiber in vegetables too, they will help you feel full.

Personally, I love snacking on carrot sticks and pepper day to day to keep me away from the sugary and salty snacks.
