Jake

You’re not going to believe it when I tell you this but this portrait I got asked to do is of a 20 year old cat. 20 years old and still going strong, how amazing is that! Jake is a gorgeous champagne beige furred cat and he was a pleasure to draw.

Jake.

For this portrait I got asked if I could do the whole picture in a champagne tone. I don’t usually do coloured backgrounds, as often they can come out looking a little off but if someone wants one, of course I’m going to do that for the client. At the end of the day I always want my clients vision to come to life! We decided that we wanted just the head and shoulders of Jake and the main reference picture we used is the one here;

The final piece.

When I do pet portrait commissions, I always send an initial sketch to make sure that the proportions of the pet are right and any distinguishing features are there. Once the initial sketch is approved, then we got in with colour to create the final piece! I was so impressed with how this came out and I loved using the monotonal beige colours to create the image. I thought it might turn out looking a little bland but it actually ended up looking really cool. If you’d like to commission me to do a pet portrait for you, pop me over a DM on Instagram or send me an email and I’ll send you over all the information you need.

Love, always – B
