It’s no surprise to any that knows me, that I love dogs. Every single thing about them and for this reason, drawing people’s dogs is one of my favourite things to do! I love nothing more when someone gets in touch to ask if I’m able to draw their pet, as of course I want to do this for them!

I was recently asked to draw a portrait of the gorgeous Shadow as a birthday present for her owner. My turn around on commissions is usually 10 – 14 days but if it’s needed sooner and I have no other commissions lined up, I’ll always aim to get it done as quickly as possible. In this case, I got the image complete and posted within 2 days, to make sure it was able to be given as a gift on the day!

First off, how gorgeous is shadow? I love ‘big headed’ dogs such as staffys and I’m looking forward to adding Staffys to my dog collection that’s coming to the shop soon, so keep your eyes peeled! With all dog portraits, I’ll always do a rough sketch and with this send a design sheet to show different colours that will be used, fonts that can be used and even background colours.

From then I can create the final image and Shadow is probably one of the best dog portraits I’ve done in a long long time!

Final piece.

We ended up adding a background and using a gorgeous handwritten font to really bring the picture to life. When framed, this image will be so amazing in the home of Shadow’s owner!

Now I hate to say it, but Christmas is coming up and I only have 2 hands, so if you’re thinking of getting a portrait as a gift for Christmas and your dog isn’t one you’ve seen teased so far on my blog or Instagram, I’d highly advise getting in touch as soon as possible so you have it in time for the day. I know Christmas is going to be a strange one this year, so thinking outside the box in terms of presents will really mean a lot. Honestly, not bigging myself up, but I think a personalised pet portrait is an amazing thoughtful present!
