There’s nothing that aggravates me more than people ‘cutting out carbs’ when they want to lose weight. Carbs are an essential part of your diet and by cutting them out, you’re going to become very ‘hangry’, irritates and tired. Let me tell you more..
What do carbs do?
Carbs provide the human body with energy. They’re the easiest thing for our body to break down and convert into energy to keep us going throughout the day. Yes, we can also get energy from protein and fat but the body needs to work harder to get what’s needed out of these sources.
For this reason, it’s important that we provide the body with mainly complex carbs. These provide slow-release energy, keeping us full for longer and energised for longer.
Without getting too sciency, a complex carb has a longer chain of sugar molecules which means they take longer to break down in the body than a simple carb. This means they provide long lasting energy and are great to have as part of your meals.
- Brown rice
- Wild rice
Can I still eat simple carbs?
Hell yes! Simple carbs are still good for giving you that much faster energy when you need it. Many fruits and vegetables are classed as simple carbs and we all know we need to be eating those.
It’s just important if you’re wanting to have a more healthy lifestyle to not lean towards the bad simple carbs, such as;
- Sugary drinks
- Table sugar
- Fruit juice concentrate
- Breads and cereals with added sugar
Eat your carbs.
What I want you to get from this post is that carbs are not the enemy. Providing you’re eating them as part of a balanced diet, they’re essential as a source for your energy.
Eat the pasta, rice, bread and cereals – it’s what’s going to keep you going.
The most important thing is that you don’t overdo it. If you are looking to lose weight, it’s all about a calorie deficit, so providing you’re eating inside of your allowance, carbs are needed. After all, your fruits and veggies are classed as carbs and I can bet my bottom dollar you’re not going to be cutting them out.
Just use your common sense and don’t restrict yourself from what your body needs!

By the way, there is something going on with your WordPress site that you may want to address- For some reason there are several stacks of lines of the words “WP SHOPIFY COLLECTIONS” clogging up the top of your site, and they make it so that you have to scroll down extremely far just to get anywhere!
