An avocado is a very versatile fruit, from putting it in smoothies, using it to make a chocolate mouse or spreading it on toast it’s a staple for a lot of people. Although it’s a fat source, it’s important to note that this is the good healthy kind of fats that our body needs to function and here I’m going to tell you why they’re so important!

So much nutrition.

Not only do avocados have top points for healthy fats, they also provide a lot your vitamins and minerals. From potassium, folate, zinc and copper to vitamins K, C, B5, B6, E and A they really do have it all!

Another thing that’s great about the humble avocado is that they don’t contain any cholesterol, they’re low in saturated fat and they have no sodium!

The good kind of fat.

As I mentioned previous, avocados are a source of healthy fat. The fat in them is called oleic acid, which is a monounsaturated fatty acid that’s also found in the likes of olive oil. The acid itself can help reduce inflammation and studies have also shown is can have beneficial effects in relation to genes that are linked to cancer. Not only avocados but also avocado oil are great ingredients to put into your daily diet.

They help you take on nutrients.

For many vitamins they need a particular food source to properly be absorbed by the body. For vitamins A, D, E and K they’re all fat-soluble. By including avocado or oil to your diet, this helps to move this vitamins from your digestive tract and into your body to fuel it correctly and essentially give it the good stuff! Without having a source of fat in your diet, these vitamins wouldn’t as easily be absorbed and in turn, you could become deficient.

What I want to know is how do you eat yours?!

Love, always – B

    1. Oh wow, you’re really missing out. I personally love them in a guacamole or smashed onto toast or on a sandwich with some tomato, salt and pepper! You’ll have to let me know if you try!
