Just Do It

I feel like Nike have completely coined this phrase but good on them, it’s a good one isn’t it? Let’s talk more about just doing it! You may be sat there thinking, oh I want to start a little business or I want to create an Instagram for my recipes or maybe you’re thinking I want to start a blog to talk about my journey into upcycling or whatever the hell you want to do. There’s no point thinking about it, just go ahead and do it!

For everything, it’s likely that you need some spare time and in some cases, money. For example, if you want to start making clay earrings, you’re going to have to spend some time looking into how it’s done, buying the clay and other parts for the earrings, making them and then selling them. It’s process for sure but it’s a process that needs to be done to get to the point where you can say ‘I have a small business selling clay earrings’.

No such thing as perfection.

I’m someone who doesn’t like to put things out there unless they’re perfect, so for any of you that feel the same, please know I’m with you on this. For such a long time I go back and forth thinking about ‘oh I might make a print of this, but I don’t like the shadows I’ve drawn’ or something along those lines.

The fact of the matter is, there’s no such thing as perfection and we’ve all got to start somewhere. The process itself will be a learning curve for sure and with time and practice comes better skills, more income to invest into your business and so on and so forth.

For me at the moment, I want to spend more time drawing illustrations to create prints, tote bags and even clothing as I think it’ll be super cute and a great way for people to buy into my brand without having to pay for a custom commissions. It also will allow me more time to up my drawing skills, create images I absolutely adore and in the long run, bring in more business and income to invest back into my business, making my full time small business owner dreams come true.

Things are changing.

For this reason, I’m going to stop pressuring myself to writing blog posts to share with all of you guys everyday. Of course I love the engagement but these posts don’t bring in the money I’m sorry to say! These posts are more to connect with my lovely followers, rant about certain things and spread positivity. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not going anywhere, I’m just not going to be posting on here everyday.

It’s likely that I’ll cut down to posts 4 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) giving me more time to create illustrations for Instagram and in turn my business. This will also give me more time to spend on other projects that I’ve been lucky enough to have been asked to work on, building up my small illustration business further.

Just start.

Whether you’re wanting to start a business, blog, alternative Instagram page or whatever else, this is me telling you to just start. The first post is never going to go viral (well, 99% it’s not) and it’s not going to be your best work as you’ll constantly be bettering yourself and getting into the groove. So just start. Once you’ve got the first thing started, the sky is the limit and who knows where it’ll go?

I’m excited to be starting a new product line and series for my shop and of course, I’ll keep you updated on here as to when things are live. I appreciate your support so much everyday and to catch up with me more often, come and follow me over on Instagram my handle is @thebeccabynature

  1. Always good to take care of yourself! And….yes perfection is a distraction, but excellence is a pursuit that makes room for flaws! Best wishes on all of your pursuits!
